GE's Avionics & Power Systems for Gulfstream's G500/G600 - Analyst Blog

GE Aviation, an operating segment of General Electric Company ( GE ), won a contract to provide avionics and power systems for the new G500/G600 business jets, which were recently unveiled by Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, a unit of General Dynamics Corp. ( GD ).

Per the contract, GE Aviation will supply high-end power management and health management systems as well as data concentration and network for the G500 and G600 jets. The business jet aircrafts are powered by PW800 engines by Pratt & Whitney, a segment of United technologies Corp. ( UTX ).

This contract marks the first time that an integrated data network which assembles multiple aircraft systems has been applied in business jets. The network for the G500/G600 will be based on General Electric's core computing system that is used in the Boeing 787 aircraft of the Boeing Company ( BA ).

The system integrates avionics and utility functions, creating a highly configurable integrated data network. Gulfstream's jets will be fitted with highly sophisticated avionics and electrical power technologies, ensuring superior control through a configurable software application. Through GE Aviation's technology, the aircraft will have enhanced compute monitoring of over 9,000 parameters, which will monitor real-time communication through Wi-Fi transmission, satellite and 3G/cellular.

GE Aviation will supplement G650's secondary power system together with General Electric's modular power tile technology, by adding primary power distribution, reducing wiring and utility function controllers. The power system will be optimally integrated to ensure a flexible composition, while notably decreasing integration risk and the cost of change over the life span of the aircraft.

GE Aviation is a leading provider of integrated systems with applications for military, commercial, business and general aviation aircraft, and boasts a global service network to support its offerings.

General Electric presently sports a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
