German Zew only item on docket

Today's calendar is relatively quiet, with no significant events taking place in the United States.

Germany's Zew survey is the only economic report, scheduled for early in the morning. Aside from that, Kate Spade reports earnings before the opening bell and is followed in the afternoon by JDS Uniphase, Cree and King Digital Entertainment.

Wednesday is more active, with industrial-production numbers due from China and Europe. The Unites States government also reports monthly retail sales. Deere and Macy's are the big names in the morning. Cisco Systems and NetApp release numbers in the afternoon.

Thursday brings European economic growth and initial jobless claims. Wal-Mart, Kohl's and E-Commerce China Dangdang also announce earnings in the premarket. Applied Materials, Nordstrom, Autodesk, Sina and J.C. Penney follow after the closing bell.

Friday's agenda includes producer prices, the New York Federal Reserve's Empire Manufacturing report and the University of Michigan's consumer-sentiment gauge. Estee Lauder also releases quarterly results.
