Friday Sector Leaders: Energy, Utilities

In afternoon trading on Friday, Energy stocks are the best performing sector, higher by 0.5%. Within that group, Helmerich & Payne, Inc. (Symbol: HP) and Newfield Exploration Co (Symbol: NFX) are two of the day's stand-outs, showing a gain of 3.0% and 1.8%, respectively. Among energy ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLE), which is up 0.2% on the day, and up 5.13% year-to-date. Helmerich & Payne, Inc., meanwhile, is down 1.40% year-to-date, and Newfield Exploration Co, is down 11.21% year-to-date. Combined, HP and NFX make up approximately 0.9% of the underlying holdings of XLE.

The next best performing sector is the Utilities sector, losing just 0.2%. Among large Utilities stocks, Evergy Inc (Symbol: EVRG) and Eversource Energy (Symbol: ES) are the most notable, showing a gain of 1.0% and 0.7%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Utilities stocks is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLU ), which is down 0.2% in midday trading, and up 2.43% on a year-to-date basis. Evergy Inc, meanwhile, is up 10.55% year-to-date, and Eversource Energy, is down 0.93% year-to-date. Combined, EVRG and ES make up approximately 5.2% of the underlying holdings of XLU.
