Friday Sector Laggards: Utilities, Consumer Products

The worst performing sector as of midday Friday is the Utilities sector, not showing much of a gain. Within that group, SCANA Corp (Symbol: SCG) and Sempra Energy (Symbol: SRE) are two of the day's laggards, showing a loss of 1.9% and 0.9%, respectively. Among utilities ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLU), which is flat on the day on the day, and down 6.47% year-to-date. SCANA Corp, meanwhile, is up 0.08% year-to-date, and Sempra Energy is up 1.76% year-to-date. Combined, SCG and SRE make up approximately 5.5% of the underlying holdings of XLU.

The next worst performing sector is the Consumer Products sector, up 0.6%. Among large Consumer Products stocks, Mattel Inc (Symbol: MAT) and Hasbro, Inc. (Symbol: HAS) are the most notable, showing a loss of 7.2% and 1.9%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Consumer Products stocks is the iShares U.S. Consumer Goods ETF ( IYK ), which is up 0.4% in midday trading, and down 2.49% on a year-to-date basis. Mattel Inc, meanwhile, is down 3.61% year-to-date, and Hasbro, Inc. is up 1.46% year-to-date. Combined, MAT and HAS make up approximately 0.7% of the underlying holdings of IYK.
