Friday Sector Laggards: Industrial, Materials

In afternoon trading on Friday, Industrial stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 0.5% loss. Within that group, Stericycle Inc. (Symbol: SRCL) and Global Payments, Inc. (Symbol: GPN) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 17.0% and 3.7%, respectively. Among industrial ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLI), which is down 0.1% on the day, and up 10.77% year-to-date. Stericycle Inc., meanwhile, is down 27.09% year-to-date, and Global Payments, Inc. is up 16.76% year-to-date. SRCL makes up approximately 0.4% of the underlying holdings of XLI.

The next worst performing sector is the Materials sector, showing a 0.5% loss. Among large Materials stocks, Eastman Chemical Co. (Symbol: EMN) and LyondellBasell Industries NV (Symbol: LYB) are the most notable, showing a loss of 7.8% and 4.5%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLB ), which is down 0.5% in midday trading, and up 13.07% on a year-to-date basis. Eastman Chemical Co., meanwhile, is down 2.55% year-to-date, and LyondellBasell Industries NV, is down 11.30% year-to-date. Combined, EMN and LYB make up approximately 5.4% of the underlying holdings of XLB.
