Ford Motor Company Spends $200K to Get Its Hands on a Tesla Model X

Ford Motor Company ( F ) bought one of Tesla Motors Inc's ( TSLA ) new Model X cars for roughly $200,000.

The new Tesla Model X bought by Ford previously belonged to a coin dealer in California that bought it as part of the company's customer-referral promotion. The money spent on the car comes in at $55,000 more than its normal retail price.

The Tesla Model X bought by Ford was part of the Founder Series, of which only 100 were made. Ford's is the 64th Model X to be made as part of the limited edition series. Other automakers, such as General Motors Company ( GM ) and Toyota Motor Corp (ADR) ( TM ), are also believed to have been early buyers of the Model X, reports Bloomberg.

Ford is likely interested in the Tesla Model X to help fuel its own electric car plans. The car company announced at International CES 2016 in January that it intends to introduce 13 electric cars in the next four years .
