Flat Finish for Stocks After Early Lift From Alibaba, Scottish Vote

Stocks close narrowly mixed and essentially flat Friday, giving back most of their opening gains despite a historic IPO from Chinese e-commerce site Alibaba ( BABA ). Stocks also benefited early on from the decision by Scottish citizens to remain within the United Kingdom, averting a costly and chaotic split from the world's sixth largest economy. After hitting new record levels in morning trading in concert with rising UK markets, Wall Street capitulated to light profit-taking ahead of a heavy economic calendar next week.
