Financial shares were mainly higher after economic data showed that durable goods orders in the US were flat in November after a 2.9% increase in October. The headline is better than expected, but the composition of the report was more mixed.
In financial stocks news, Suffolk Bancorp ( SCNB ), a bank holding company, has entered into an agreement with financial services technology provider Fiserv ( FISV ) to convert its core banking platform into Fiserv's suite of products and services.
Shares were unchanged at $28.89. The company has traded between $20.66 and $31.75 over the past 52 weeks.
And Synovus Financial ( SNV ) said it has begun a cash tender offer to purchase up to $100 million of its outstanding 5.125% subordinated notes due June 15, 2017.
Shares were also inactive at $31.84. The company has traded between $24.41 and $33.80 over the past 52 weeks.
