Financial Sector Update for 12/21/2015: BBCN, OPB

Financial shares were mainly higher in pre-market trade on Monday ahead of a raft of economic data which is due out later in the week.

On Tuesday, data are expected to show Q3 GDP grew by 2%, up from 2.1% in Q2 and on Wednesday, new home sales data and the University of Michigan's consumer sentiment indicator will be published.

In financial stocks news, BBCN Bancorp ( BBCN ) shares were upgraded to outperform from market perform by Keefe Bruyette.

Shares in the bank holding company were 1.3% higher at $16.84 pre-bell. The company has traded between $12.77 and $19.63 over the past 52 weeks.

And Opus Bank ( OPB ), a California-chartered commercial bank, has joined the S&P Regional Banks Select Industry Index and the S&P Total Market Index. The change is effective December 18.

Opus' shares were inactive at $36.80 pre-bell. This is within the upper band of its 52 week trading range between $23.86 and $41.49.
