Financial stocks were moderately higher Wednesday afternoon, with the NYSE Financial Sector Index climbing about 0.3% while financial companies in the S&P 500 Index also were rising 0.3%.

In company news, American depository shares of the Royal Bank of Scotland ( RBS ) were higher Wednesday after analysts at JP Morgan today raised their investment recommendation for the lender's stock to Neutral from Underweight.

RBS ADSs were up more than 4% this afternoon at $6.03 apiece, staying within 2 cents of today's session high.

In other sector news,

(+) FULT, (+2.7%) Q1 EPS of $0.25 exceed analyst mean by $0.02 per share. Revenue climbs 7.0% over year-ago levels to $183.15 mln, roughly in-line with the $184.36 mln consensus.

(-) LTXB, (-5.3%) Q1 EPS of $0.37 trails Capital IQ consensus by $0.22 per share. Revenue rises 10.9% year over year to $88.7 mln, edging just below the $88.9 mln consensus.
