(-) Bank Of New York Mellon (BK), which was down more than 7% after it reported Q1 EPS of $0.94, down from $1.10 in the year-earlier period and below the Street estimate of $0.96 compiled by Capital IQ.

In other sector news:

(+) Morgan Stanley (MS) was 2% higher after it booked Q1 adjusted earnings of $1.33 per share, down from $1.45 per share in the prior-year period but higher than the $1.17 per share Street estimate provided by Capital IQ.

(-) US Bancorp (USB) was down 1% after it reported Q1 earnings of $1.00 per share, up from $0.96 in the same period a year ago and in line with the estimate of $1.00 from analysts polled by Capital IQ.
