Financial stocks were moderately higher in late Monday trading with the NYSE Financial Sector Index climbing about 0.4% and the S&P Financial 100 Index rising about 0.1%.

In company news, Sierra Bancorp ( BSRR ) was narrowly low in late Monday trade and the bank holding company today adding another 500,000 shares to its stock buyback authorization after recently completing its prior repurchase program.

The new program, if fully implemented, would reduce the number of outstanding shares by another 4%. The company bought back around 700,000 shares during the 12 months ended March 31.

BSRR shares were down 0.2% at $16.70 each, giving back an earlier rise to a session high of $17.00 a share. The stock has traded within a 52-week range of $14.66 to $18.00 a share, already rising about 5% over the past 12 moths prior to today's late dip.
