Financial stocks were higher Thursday afternoon, with the NYSE Financial Sector Index climbing 0.7% and the S&P Financial 100 Index ahead about 0.5%.

In company news, RCS Capital ( RCAP ) advanced Thursday after the investment broker said its wholesale broker-dealer subsidiaries raised around $476.3 million in equity capital during March, a 45.7% increase over the prior month.

The company raised $1.1 billion in equity during the first three months of 2015.

RCAP shares were up nearly 3% at $10.80 apiece, staying within 4 cents of their session high. The stock has traded within a 52-week range of $8.54 to $39.92 a share, dropping almost 73% over the past 12 months before Thursday's price rise.

In other sector news,

(+) CNO, (+3.7%) Named to S&P MidCap 400, effective following the close of Monday trading. It replaces Salix Pharmaceuticals ( SLXP ), which was acquired by Valeant Pharmaceuticals ( VRX ).

(-) CBOE, (-1.7%) Reports 7% increase in March trading volume compared with February levels, rising to 94.9 million contracts changing hands last month.
