Financial stocks were narrowly higher Friday afternoon, with the NYSE Financial Sector Index climbing just 0.1% while financial companies in the S&P 500 Index were rising nearly 0.2%.

In company news, shares of Wins Finance Holdings Inc. ( WINS ) fell again during Friday trading after the Chinese investment and asset manager today said it was not aware of any reason for the recent volatility in its stock price, adding it does not have any material non-public information.

WINS shares closed almost 15% lower yesterday following a 45.8% spike higher during the previous two sessions. Overall, the stock had climbed 1220% since Nov. 1 through Thursday's close - jumping from $29.16 to $384.90 a share - with few clear reasons for the extended rally.

A Barron's article in late December observed most of the stock's recent gains have come on extremely small volume. The magazine also reported the company headquarters in Manhattan share the same floor as an investment bank that once employed Wins' founding company president and sports a record of run-ins with the Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulators.

WINS shares were down 12% this afternoon at $338.74 apiece, earlier touching a session low of $336.45 a share.
