(Washington)
The Fed is meeting this week, and their decision on rates is highly anticipated by the market. The overwhelming expectation is that they will raise interest rates by a quarter of a point to between 1.5% and 1.75%, a level still very low by historical standards. The bigger question from today's meeting regards the future path of interest rates in 2018, especially as a new Fed chairman, Jerome Powell, is set to take over.
FINSUM : One of the big x-factors here is how the not-yet-finalized tax cuts will affect the Fed's projections for tightening. The expectation is that the increased fiscal stimulus of the package will prompt the Fed to be more hawkish.
