Facebook Search Feature to Challenge Google, Twitter?

Facebook, Inc.FB has revamped its search feature to provide more "timely and personalized search suggestions." The feature will be rolled out initially to all US English language users across the globe.

In a blog post, Tom Stocky, VP of Search said that users make about 1.5 billion searches in a day. By indexing all of its 2 trillion posts, the new search feature will provide Facebook users with "most recent and relevant public posts" along with posts from their friends on a particular search topic.

Stocky also added, "search results are organized to help you cut through the noise and quickly understand what the world is saying about a topic in the moment."

Addressing security concerns, Stocky said that each user will have personalized and unique search results. Users can have restricted viewing to their posts and can always change the audience of their past posts.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg has continually stressed that search remains a long-term strategy at Facebook. As per Zuckerberg, Facebook's 2 trillion public posts are "bigger than any Web search corpus out there."

With the new Search FYI version, Facebook is now a universal search engine and is willing to take on the likes of Alphabet Inc's. GOOGL Google search engine and Twitter, Inc.'s TWTR newly launched "Moments" service.

Twitter's "Moments" is a news curation feature enabling users to find the best or most relevant content on Twitter. As users pick the handles that they follow, they may be presented with only a certain perspective, as digging through hashtags and trending topics is often difficult. With Moments, a team from Twitter does that work for you.

On the other hand, it remains to be seen how the new search feature takes on the mighty Google. With over 3.3 billion searches per day, Google remains everybody's favorite search engine.

At present, Facebook sports a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy). Another stock worth considering in the technology space is MeetMe, Inc. MEET , which is also a Zacks Rank #1 stock.
