Ex- Chesapeake Energy Corporation ( CHK ) CEO Aubrey McClendon died on Wednesday .
Aubrey McClendon crashed his 2013 Chevy Tahoe into an overpass wall on Wednesday. He wasn't wearing his seatbelt and the car burst into flames as soon as it hit the wall. Oklahoma City Police said that the ex-Chesapeake Energy CEO had plenty of time to adjust his course and miss the obstacle, reports CNNMoney.
The former Chesapeake Energy CEO was the only one in the car when it crashed. Reports also state that he was driving very fast when he collided with the wall. The energy company said that it was saddened by the death of its founder and sent condolences to his family, CNNMoney notes.
Aubrey McClendon had charges filed against him on Tuesday that claimed he took part in a conspiracy between two companies to not bid against each other for oil and natural gas leases in northwest Oklahoma. The charges carried a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $1 million fine for each violation.
