European stocks end the day with modest gains

Italy leads the way.

The European session is ending the day with modest gains. The Italy MIB rose by 0.24% and was the strongest performer. The Spain Ibex was the laggard with a 0.10% gain. NOTE: The UK stock and bond markets were closed today as a pay back from the Boxing Day holiday falling on a Monday. Monday was really the Christmas day holiday (since it fell on a Sunday) Make sense?

Anyway, below is a closing snapshot of the major indices in trading today. The UK change is from Friday....

In the European debt market, 10 year yields are mixed:

  • Germany, 0.207%, -1 BP
  • France 0.672%, -2.2 BP
  • UK, 1.345%, Friday's closing value
  • Italy, 1.846%, +2.4 BP
  • Portugal, 3.814%, +6.3 BP
  • Spain, 1.391%, +1.4 BP
