European ADRs Edge Lower Despite Pharma Gains

American depository receipts of European stocks were 0.40% lower at 117.46 on the Bank of New York Mellon Europe ADR Index on Thursday morning.

Decliners in Continental Europe were led by kidney dialysis company Fresenius Medical Care - Com ( FMS ), 6.4% lower, followed by Unilever ( UN ), a Dutch consumer goods company, down by 4.2% and RELX ( RENX ), a provider of information and analytics, 3.8% lower.

In the UK, National Grid ( NGG ), an electricity and gas utility company, was 7.8% lower, followed by gold mining company Randgold Resources ( GOLD ), down by 7.1% and telecommunications major BT Group (BT), 4.8% lower.

Gainers in Continental Europe were led by financial services provider Aegon - New York Shares (AEG), 12.3% higher, followed by Cellectis (CLLS), a genome engineering company, up by 8.5% and Oasmia Pharmaceutical (OASM), a Sweden-based pharmaceutical company, trading 7.5% higher.

And, in the UK, Adaptimmune Therapeutics (ADAP), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, was 10.9% higher, followed by Prudential (PUK), a financial services group, up by 8.5% and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), 6.4% higher.
