American depository receipts of European stocks were 0.3% higher at 125.07 on the Bank of New York Mellon Europe ADR Index on Thursday morning.
Gainers in Continental Europe were led by Swedish telecommunications operator Telefonaktiebolaget Ericsson ( ERIC ), 3.4% higher, followed by voxelJet ( VJET ), a German three-dimensional printer manufacturer, up by 2.9% and STMicroelectronics - New York Shares ( STM ), an Italian semiconductor manufacturer, 2.4% higher. Cellectis ( CLLS ), a French genome engineering company, was up by 2.4%.
In the UK, Shire ( SHPG ), a biopharmaceutical company, was 4.1% higher, followed by Luxfer (LXFR), a materials technology company, up by 1.4% and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), a healthcare company, 1.3% higher. Amarin (AMRN), a biopharmaceutical company, was 1.2% higher.
Decliners in Continental Europe were led by Edap (EDAP), a French medical devices developer, down by 1.0%, followed by Natuzzi (NTZ), an Italian furniture manufacturer, 0.9% lower and Spanish financial group Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), also down by 0.9%.
And, in the UK, pharmaceutical stocks led the decliners with Midatech Pharma (MTP), Motif Bio Plc - Warrant (MTFBW), Adaptimmune Therapeutics (ADAP) and Trinity Biotech (TRIB) down by 2.5%, 2.0%, 1.4% and 1.0%, respectively.
