European ADRs Contract as Banking Stocks Edge Lower

American depository receipts of European stocks were trading 0.2% lower at 133.71 on the Bank of New York Mellon Europe ADR Index on Monday morning.

Decliners in Continental Europe were led by Spanish bank Banco Santander ( SAN ), 1.3% lower, followed by Dutch information solutions provider RELX NV ( RENX ), slipping 0.6%.

In the UK, National Bank of Greece ( NBG ) edged 2.2% lower while mining company Rio Tinto ( RIO ) contracted by 2.1% and engineering conglomerate Amec Foster Wheeler ( AMFW ) fell by 2.0%.

Gainers in Continental Europe were led by Swiss banking group Credit Suisse (CS), 1.2% higher, followed by Criteo (CRTO), a technology company specializing in digital performance marketing, up by 0.3%.

And, in the UK, cruise vacation company Carnival (CUK) advanced by 0.4% while building materials company CRH (CRH) rose by 0.2% and gold mining company Randgold Resources (GOLD) lifted by 0.1%.
