American depository receipts of European stocks were 0.9% higher at 122.62 on the Bank of New York Mellon Europe ADR Index on Thursday morning.
Gainers in Continental Europe were led by financial services providers Credit Suisse ( CS ), Banco Santander ( SAN ) and Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria ( BBVA ), 3.8%, 3.2% and 2.9% higher, respectively. Steel production company ArcelorMittal ( MT ) was 2.9% higher.
In the UK, Royal Bank of Scotland ( RBS ) was 4.5% higher, followed by Amec Foster Wheeler (AMFW), a global engineering conglomerate, Barclays Bank (BCS) and financial services major Prudential (PUK), 3.1%, 3.0% and 2.7% higher, respectively.
Decliners in Continental Europe were led by Oasmia Pharmaceuticals (OASM), a Sweden-based pharmaceutical company, 1.2% lower, followed by RELX (RENX), a provider of information and analytics, down by 0.9% and Grifols (GRFS), a Spanish health care company, 0.7% lower. Voxeljet (VJET), a German three-dimensional printer manufacturer, was also 0.7% lower.
And, in the UK, Randgold Resources (GOLD), a Jersey-based gold producer, was 1.7% lower, while pharmaceutical majors GW Pharmaceuticals (GWPH) and Adaptimmune Therapeutics (ADAP) were 0.6% and 0.5% lower, respectively.
