American depository receipts of European stocks were 0.4% higher at 134.99 on the Bank of New York Mellon Europe ADR Index on Wednesday morning.
Gainers in Continental Europe were led by CGG ( CGG ), a manufacturer of geophysical equipment, 6% higher, followed by Edap ( EDAP ), a French medical devices developer, up by 4.6% and Deutsche Bank - Global Registered Shares ( DB ), up by 2%. Grifols ( GRFS ), a Spanish healthcare company, was 1.8% higher.
In the UK, Akari Therapeutics ( AKTX ), a development-stage biopharmaceutical company, was 4.2% higher, followed by Motif Bio (MTFB), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, up by 4% and Amec Foster Wheeler (AMFW), a global engineering conglomerate, 3.2% higher. Shire (SHPG), biopharmaceutical company, was up by 1.8%.
Decliners in Continental Europe were led by Trivago (TRVG), an online hotel search platform, down by 24.3%, followed by Oasmia Pharmaceutical (OASM), a Sweden-based pharmaceutical company, 3% lower and Forward Pharma (FWP), a Danish biopharmaceutical company, down by 1.1%. Telecom Italia Savings (TI.A), an Italian telecommunications company, was 0.8% lower.
And, in the UK, Randgold Resources (GOLD), a gold mining company, was 0.8% lower, followed by RELX (RELX), a provider of information and analytics, down by 0.7% and Carnival (CUK), a cruise vacation company, down by 0.6%. CRH (CRH), building materials company, was 0.3% lower.
