European ADRs Advance as Banking Gains Offset Pharma Losses

American depository receipts of European stocks were trading 1.5% higher at 125.80 on the Bank of New York Mellon Europe ADR Index on Tuesday morning.

Gainers in Continental Europe were led by Luxembourg steelmaker ArcelorMittal ( MT ), 4.0% higher, followed by Sanofi ( SNY ), a French healthcare company, up by the same amount, and VimpelCom - Com ( VIP ), a Dutch provider of telecommunications services, trading 3.6% higher.

In the UK, Barclays Bank ( BCS ) was 1.9% higher, followed by HSBC ( HSBC ), another high street bank, trading 1.7% higher and Rio Tinto (RIO), a mining company, also up by 1,7%.

Decliners in Continental Europe were led by Innocoll (INNL), a commercial-stage, specialty pharmaceutical company, down by 5.9%, followed by Advanced Accelerator Applications (AAAP), a radiopharmaceutical company, down by 3.3% and Natuzzi (NTZ), an Italian furniture designer, 1.9% lower.

And, in the UK, Adaptimmune Therapeutics (ADAP), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, was down by 0.8%, Amec Foster Wheeler (AMFW), a British consultancy, engineering and project management company, contracted by 0.7% and CRH (CRH), a building materials company, fell by the same amount.
