Escalade, Incorporated (NASDAQ:ESCA) insider upped their holding by 8.0% earlier this year

Looking at Escalade, Incorporated's (NASDAQ:ESCA ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net buyers. That is, there were more number of shares purchased by insiders than there were sold.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Escalade

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Chairman of the Board Walter Glazer for US$388k worth of shares, at about US$18.62 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, at around the current price, which is US$18.71. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. Happily, the Escalade insider decided to buy shares at close to current prices. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was Walter Glazer.

Does Escalade Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Escalade insiders own 26% of the company, worth about US$66m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Escalade Insiders?

The fact that there have been no Escalade insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. On a brighter note, the transactions over the last year are encouraging. Insiders do have a stake in Escalade and their transactions don't cause us concern.
