Energy stocks were narrowly mixed late Thursday, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index (^NYE) slipping 0.1% while shares of energy companies in the S&P 500 ( XLE ) were off 0.1% as a group. Crude oil for January delivery was up 36 cents at $56.96 per barrel. Also, the Philadelphia Oil-Service Sector Index index ( OSX ) was down 0.7% this afternoon. The U.S. Energy Information Administration this morning said U.S. natural gas inventories fell by 69 billion cubic feet to 3.626 trillion cubic feet during the seven days ended Dec. 8. Industry experts polled by S&P Global Platts had been expecting commercial gas supplies to fall around 63 billion cubic feet last week.

+ SunCoke Energy Partners L.P ( SXCP ) was hanging on to a narrow gain in late trade after the coal miner today announced plans for a $70 million follow-on offering of its 7.50% senior unsecured notes due 2025. The company previously sold $630 million of the debt securities in May and expects to use net proceeds from the upcoming offering to repay debt owed under its revolving credit facility.

+ Citing "highly constructive" supply and demand industry fundamentals and "improving market signals," oilfield-services company Keane Group ( FRAC ) disclosed orders for three more hydraulic fracturing fleets, boosting its operating capacity by roughly 5% to around 1.3 million horsepower. More than half of Keane's fleet is operating in the Delaware Basin in Texas.
+ EOG Resources ( EOG ) climbed fractionally on Thursday after promoting Lloyd Helms to chief operating officer at the oil and natural gas producer, effective yesterday. The former vice president for exploration and production succeeds Gary Thomas, who is keeping his other role as company president through his expected retirement later next year.
