Top Energy Stocks:
Energy stocks were rising slightly in pre-market trading Thursday. The global benchmark Brent crude January contract fell $0.47 to $74.57 per barrel and December natural gas futures gained 3 cents to $3.29 per 1 million BTU. West Texas Intermediate crude oil for December delivery, meanwhile, was down $0.32 to $64.99 per barrel at the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Early movers include:
(+) Newfield Exploration ( NFX ), which was over 12% higher after the company said Q3 net EPS was $1.11, above the Capital IQ mean for $0.85.
(-) Marathon Petroleum ( MPC ) was down over 2% after it reported Q3 diluted EPS of $1.62, declining from the $1.77 booked a year ago and below the $1.70 Capital IQ mean.
In other sector news:
(-) Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A, RDS.B) was slightly down as it booked Q3 adjusted earnings of $0.68 per share, which matched the Street view from analysts polled by Capital IQ. Last year, the Anglo-Dutch energy major reported an EPS of $0.50.
