Energy shares were higher in pre-market trade Monday as crude oil futures gained.
Light, sweet crude oil for May delivery was up 0.7% at $52.36 per barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was up 1.0% at $1.59 per gallon while natural gas was down 0.4% at $2.50 British thermal units.
In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was up 1.4% at $18.66. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) was down 0.5% at $12.55.
In other energy news, Statoil ASA ( STO ) announced that, together with its PL602 partners, it has made a gas discovery in the Roald Rygg prospect in the Norwegian Sea.
Shares in the company were trading 0.3% lower at $18.96 during pre-market trading . Over the past 52 weeks, the company has traded between $15.76 and $31.95.
