Energy Sector Update for 04/08/2015: RDS.A, USO, UNG

Energy shares were weighed in pre-market trade Wednesday as crude oil futures were lower.

Light, sweet crude oil for May delivery were down 1.0% at $52.99 per barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was down 1.5% at $1.59 per gallon while natural gas was down 1.9% at $2.57 British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was down 1.7% at $18.74. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) was down 1.1% at $13.23.

In other energy news, Shell (RDS-A) Wednesday said it has agreed to buy its smaller British rival BG Group, which is expected to add some 25% to Shell's proved oil and gas reserves and 20% to production. The oil and gas giant also expects the combination to accelerate its growth strategy in global LNG and deep water.

Shares in the company were trading 1.9% lower at $60.75 during pre-market trading . Over the past 52 weeks, the company has traded between $56.82 and $83.42.
