Energy Sector Update for 01/11/2016: USO, UNG

Energy shares were mainly lower in early afternoon trade on Monday as crude oil futures fell to a 12-year low.

Light, sweet crude oil for February delivery was down 1.8% at $31.36 per barrel. This is less than a third of the price it was worth only 17 months ago and marks the first time that crude oil has fallen below $32 per barrel since December 2003.

In other energy futures, heating oil was down 3.4 at $1.03 per gallon while natural gas was down by 3.0% at $1.68 British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was down 5.1% at $9.30 while the United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) was down 3.7% at $8.87.
