Emerson Electric Co.EMR allied with Stork for the successful installation of its Roxar SandLog wireless sand erosion monitoring solutions in the UK Continental Shelf ('UKCS'). Notably, Stork is a provider of knowledge-based asset integrity services associated with the oil & gas and other related sectors. This marked the debut of Emerson Process Management's Roxar SandLog wireless monitors in a famed North Sea operator's installation.

Emerson's new wireless device offers economical, flexible and very precise online monitoring of sand erosion from the field, which aids in broadening equipment life and boost the reserves' production capability. Moreover, the Roxar SandLog Wireless transmitters facilitate accurate monitoring in areas that were earlier inaccessible along with considerable curtailment of the installation charges.

As a matter of fact, Roxar SandLog wireless sand erosion monitoring solutions are part of Emerson's complete asset integrity system, which also includes the Roxar CorrLog corrosion monitoring transmitters. Both offerings are certified to industry standards such as ATEX (Atmosphères Explosibles).

We believe these product launches will help the company witness a rebound in its sluggish Oil & Gas business. In an attempt to improve its competitive position, Emerson Process Management has been proactively introducing products since the beginning of this year. Last August, the company expanded its portfolio of products with innovative offerings.

However, Emerson continues to suffer from current volatility in the oil and gas market, with oversupply continuing to pressure the prices and spending levels. Specifically, activity in upstream oil and gas slowed due to reductions in industry capital budgets. This is negatively affecting the company's order rates in power generating alternators and electrical distribution businesses. The company has a bearish outlook for the remainder of fiscal 2015 and anticipates oil and gas market uncertainties to persist in the year ahead through the first half of fiscal 2016. Owing to these negatives, the company currently carries a Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell).

Better-ranked stocks in the broader industrial goods sector include AO Smith Corp. AOS , Ideal Power, Inc. IPWR and Energous Corporation WATT . While AO Smith sports a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), both Ideal Power and Energous Corporation hold a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
