Edap Leads Gainers as European ADRs Advance

American depository receipts of European companies advanced by 0.22% on Monday morning to 148.93, according to the Bank of New York Mellon Europe ADR Index.

Medical device manufacturer Edap ( EDAP ) led the gainers, rising 4.23% during the morning session.

Mobile phone companies also saw early increases. Nokia ( NOK ) gained 1.18%, Vodafone Group ( VOD ) gaining 0.75% and VimpelCom-Com ( VIP ) lifted 0.73%.

ING Groep ( ING ), the Dutch multinational banking and financial services group, expanded 1.15% whilst pharmaceutical companies Amarin (AMRN) and AstraZeneca (AZN) saw increases of 2.41% and 1.65%, respectively.

Portugal Telecom (PT) saw a 2.97% decline during the morning session and Europe's financial institutions also experienced a wave of contractions. Banco Santander (SAN) edged down 1.03%, National Bank of Greece (NBG) fell 0.65% and Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) slid 1.19%.

Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) also contracted by 1.97% and HSBC (HSBC) was down 0.94%.
