Domino's' Pizza Delivery Vehicle to Hit 25 US Markets Soon

Domino's Pizza, Inc.DPZ recently announced the launch of DXP (Delivery Expert), a specially designed pizza delivery vehicle. The DXP includes a built-in warming oven behind the driver's door and can accommodate around 80 pizzas, in addition to other items.

The DXP has been jointly developed by former General Motors Company's GM executive, Kenneth R. Baker, Michigan-based Roush Enterprises and Domino's. It also includes consumers' input gathered via crowdsourcing hosted by Arizona-based motor vehicle manufacturing company, Local Motors. It took three years to build the pizza delivery vehicle which is in fact a refurbished version of the Chevrolet Spark.

Currently, Domino's is working with Roush to deliver 100 DXPs to 25 U.S. markets over the next three months. These markets include Boston, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, New Orleans, San Diego and Seattle to name a few.

Domino's has partnered with Chevrolet dealers in these regions for the maintenance of the vehicle. These dealers will also hold regional launch events for DXP in collaboration with the franchises.

Pizza delivery represents around two-thirds of Domino's' business and the company is looking to invest in technology to better connect with consumers. The vehicles will also reduce costs for franchisees through fuel efficiency and higher capacity than other delivery vehicles. Additionally, DXP can keep pizzas warm, which would increase consumer satisfaction, and bring in more orders.

Domino's Pizza currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Some better-ranked restaurant stocks are Darden Restaurants, Inc. DRI and Jack in the Box Inc. JACK . Both these stocks sport a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
