Delta Air Lines to Fly More Often to Tel Aviv and Paris

In a bid to boost its international service, airline behemoth Delta Air LinesDAL announced that it will operate additional flights to Tel Aviv and Paris from May next year. Tickets for the additional flights will be available from tomorrow.

Delta vs American Airlines Tel Aviv Policy

The Atlanta, GA- based carrier's decision to operate more flights to Tel Aviv comes barely a month after American Airlines Group AAL announced its decision to terminate its sole direct flight to Israel - connecting Philadelphia and Tel Aviv - from next year. The Fort Worth, TX-based carrier cited lack of profitability on the route as the reason for the pullback (read more: American Airlines Group to Stop Philadelphia-Tel Aviv Service ).

While American Airlines will stop flying to Tel Aviv from January 2016, Delta will start operating four additional weekly non-stop flights on the New York-JFK and Tel Aviv route from May 26. We note that Delta already operates daily flights on the route. The addition of four new flights, attributable to increased customer demand, will take the total number of Delta flights on the route to 11 per week.

Once the additional flights become operational, capacity on the route will be boosted significantly with the carrier slated to offer in excess of 2,300 additional seats from next summer. In a bid to improve the flying experience of passengers, Delta intends to operate the additional flights using The Boeing Company's BA 291-seat 777-200ER jet, which is Wi-Fi equipped.

Clearly, Delta sees greater potential in flying to Israel than American Airlines does. In fact, Delta stated in its press release that from New York, Tel Aviv represents its third-largest, trans-Atlantic market.

Delta to Add Non-Stop Service on RDU-Paris Route

Under its joint venture partnership with Air France, KLM and Alitalia, Delta has decided to operate an additional non-stop flight connecting Raleigh-Durham International Airport ("RDU") and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport from May 12, 2016.

Delta will utilize a 164-seat, Boeing 757-200ER aircraft for operating this sole non-stop flight between the two cities. Moreover, Raleigh will be the thirteenth city to which Delta will fly from Paris. The announcement is in sync with Delta's efforts to expand its presence at RDU, from where it currently operates non-stop flights to 20 destinations.

We note that Delta had announced plans to connect the two cities earlier also, to no effect. Passengers would be hoping that the current announcement does not meet the same fate since the commencement of the flight will enable fliers from North Carolina's capital city access to more than 75 destinations across Europe, Middle East and Africa via Paris.
