Consumer sentiment and corporate earnings are the main events on today's calendar.
General Electric and Morgan Stanley will report quarterly results before the opening bell, and both could affect broader market sentiment.
Shortly after the open, at 9:55 a.m. ET, the University of Michigan will report consumer sentiment. Economists forecast a reading of 75, up from 72.9 last month. A higher figure could lift equities, while a lower one could be interpreted bearishly.
