Consumer shares were higher ahead of the opening bell Wednesday.
In consumer stocks news, Newell Rubbermaid ( NWL ), a marketer of consumer and commercial products, has been upgraded by RBC Capital to a top pick rating from outperform. Price target information was not available.
Shares in the company were 1.7% higher at $44.87 pre-bell. This is within the upper band of the stock's 52 week trading range between $34.64 and $50.90.
And Xueda Education ( XUE ), provider of tutoring services in China, Wednesday said its shareholders voted in favor of the previously announced merger agreement among the company, its parent, and Xueda Acquisition by way of a plan of arrangement.
Shares in the company were unchanged at $5.42 pre-bell. This is the highest value recorded for the company over the past 52 weeks. The stock's 52 week low is $2.12.
