Top Consumer Stocks
Consumer stocks were extending their broad advance in afternoon trade, with shares of consumer staples companies in the S&P 500 posting a 2.1% advance while shares of consumer discretionary firms in the S&P 500 were showing a 1.8% increase.
In company news, ADT Corp ( ADT ) was holding on to a small gain in late trade, with shares of the security services company rising after it late yesterday raised its quarterly dividend by a penny compared with the previous quarter to $0.22 per share.
The company also said it will hold its annual meeting of stockholders on March 15 at a time and location to be determined later. Shareholders of record on Jan. 15 will be eligible to vote at the upcoming meeting.
ADT shares closed 1.2% higher at $33.98 each, earlier hitting a session high of $34.37 a share.

(+) SGMS, Names Michael Quartieri to chief financial officer, effective after the company files its Form 10-K annual report for 2015. Quartieri recently joined SGMS after nine years at Las Vegas Sands ( LVS ).
