Consumer stocks remain mixed near today's closing bell, with shares of consumer staples companies in the S&P 500 declining about 0.1% while shares of consumer discretionary firms in the S&P 500 were advancing more than 0.5%.

In company news, TravelCenters of America ( TA ) rallied Wednesday following reports a private-equity firm remains interested in a potential acquisition of the the truck-stop operator despite the company's rejection of a $540 million offer late last year.

TravelCenters rejected a $14-per-share offer from Golden Gate Capital in December, people familiar with the matter told MarketWatch. Golden Gate hasn't approached the company since its original offer was turned down and the private-equity firm isn't interested in making a hostile bid, some of the people said.

TA shares were up almost 24% at $8.38 apiece this afternoon, previously topping out today at $9.23 a share.

(+) ACAT, Awarded triple damages of $46.7 mln in a patent-infringement suit filed against Bombardier Recreational Products and BRP U.S over ACAT's off-throttle assisted steering technology.

(-) BOBE, Adjusted Q4 EPS of $0.48 beats Capital IQ consensus by $0.05 per share. Revenue rises 4.0% over year-ago levels to $345.6 mln, roughly in-line with the $345.33 mln analyst mean.
