Consumer stocks were moderately higher in Friday trade, with shares of consumer staples companies in the S&P 500 climbing 0.3%. Shares of consumer discretionary firms in the S&P 500 were ahead 0.3%.

In company news, American depository shares of Russian television broadcaster CTC Media ( CTCM ) advanced Friday after it announced the launch of a new customer loyalty program in partnership with the Magnit retail chain.

The initial promotion operating under the Kukhnya, or kitchen, brand is slated to run through early September at Magnit's 4,850 stores through Russia.

CTCM ADS were up more than 1% at $4.19 each, or just 5 cents under the session high. The stock has traded within a 52-week range of $3.49 to $11.51 per ADS, falling nearly 56% over the past year before Friday's price gain.

In other sector news,

(+) RT, (+4.6%) Trims Q3 net loss to $0.01 per share, improving on $0.07 loss last year and beating estimates by $0.03 per share. Revenue slips 3.3% to $285.9 mln, matching consensus view.

(-) MBUU, (-1.8%) Accepts a prorated 3.3 mln of the 8.3 shares tendered for repurchase at $21 apiece, according to preliminary results of the company's $70 mln modified Dutch auction.
