Consumer shares were generally higher ahead of the opening bell Friday.

In consumer stocks news, Crown Holdings ( CCK ), which manufactures and sells packaging products for consumer goods, has been downgraded by analysts at BMO Capital Markets to a market perform rating from outperform. The firm set its price target on the stock at $53 a share.

Shares in the company were unchanged at $55.22. Over the past 52 weeks, the company has traded between $42.50 and $55.82.

Meanwhile clothing company Gap ( GPS ) shares were initiated by Mizuho at neutral while the firm boosted its price target to $46 from $43.

Shares in the company were unchanged at $42.73. Over the past 52 weeks, the company has traded between $35.46 and $46.85.

And Garmin ( GRMN ), a provider of GPS technology, Friday said that its Garmin International subsidiary has launched the new PRO Control 2 handheld device, designed for sporting dog trainers, field trialers, and hunt testers.

Shares in the company were trading 0.1% higher at $46.64 during pre-market trading . Over the past 52 weeks, the company has traded between $44.57 and $62.05.
