Consumer stocks were posting small gains in recent trade, with shares of consumer staples companies in the S&P 500 climbing more than 0.2% this afternoon while shares of consumer discretionary firms in the S&P 500 also were ahead nearly 0.1%.

Among consumer stocks moving on news:

(-) Tata Motors ( TTM ) declined 3% after the auto-maker Monday said retail sales for Jaguar Land Rover dropped 5.8% during FY19 compared with the prior year, falling to 578,915 vehicles. The slide was most prevalent in China, where sales were off 34.1% year-over-year, while European sales slipped 4.5% last year.

In other sector news:

(+) New Age Beverages ( NBEV ) raced 25% higher on Monday after the organic and natural beverages company expanded its partnership with Walmart ( WMT ), creating the first national account penetration for its Marley brand coffee and relaxation drinks.

(-) Roku ( ROKU ) fell more than 6% after Citigroup lowered its investment recommendation for the streaming video platform to sell from neutral.
