Consumer stocks were slightly higher this afternoon, with shares of consumer staples companies in the S&P 500 growing about 0.1% while shares of consumer discretionary firms in the S&P 500 were advancing over 0.1%.

In company news, TASER International Inc. ( TASR ) advanced Monday after reporting better-than-expected Q4 net income and revenue in addition to the launch of a new $50 million stock buyback program.

On a GAAP basis, the company earned $0.09 per share, beating the Street view by $0.05 per share. Revenue grew 19.7% over year-ago levels to $56 million, easily exceeding the $50.7 million Capital IQ xonsensus.

TASR shares were up almost 11% at $19.35 apiece, earlier topping out today at $20.69 a share.

In other sector news,

(+) FDML, (+%) Auto parts seller receives buyout proposal from Icahn Enterprises ( IEP ) worth $7 a share, a 40.5% premium over Friday's closing price.

(-) TOUR, (-14.0%) Excluding one-time items, company losses came to $0.79 per share, on $292.6 million during the period. Analysts, on average, had been expecting $0.44 per share net loss on $291.2 mln in revenue.
