Consumer stocks were mostly lower, with shares of consumer staples companies in the S&P 500 falling over 0.4% this afternoon while shares of consumer discretionary firms in the S&P 500 were slipping about 0.1%.

Among consumer stocks moving on news:

(-) Dorman Products ( DORM ) fell 9% on Monday after forecasting FY19 net income trailing Wall Street expectations, projecting non-GAAP earnings in a range of $4.37 to $4.53 per share during the 12 months ending Dec. 31. Analysts, on average, are looking for the auto parts supplier to earn $4.65 per share.

In other sector news:

(+) Carter's Inc ( CRI ) climbed 9% after the children's clothing company reported non-GAAP Q4 net income of $2.84 per share, up from $2.33 per share during the year-ago period and topping the Capital IQ consensus expecting $2.56 per share. Total revenue rose to $1.09 billion during the three months ended Dec. 30 from $1.03 billion last year and also beating the $1.07 billion Street view.

(-) AutoNation ( AN ) slipped 2% after the car seller filed a registration statement for a mixed securities shelf offering of common or preferred shares, warrants, guarantees, subscription rights, depositary shares, stock purchase contracts, units and debt securities.
