Consumer stocks were starting to pad to their small gains from earlier in Friday trading, with shares of consumer staples companies in the S&P 500 adding about 0.2% in value while shares of consumer discretionary firms in the S&P 500 were posting a 0.4% increase.

In company news, Quotient Technology ( QUOT ) rallied Friday after the digital promotions company swung to a Q4 profit and also beat Wall Street expectations with its revenue for the October-to-December reporting period.

The company earned $0.04 per share, reversing a $0.04 per share net loss during the year-ago period and exceeding the Capital IQ consensus by $0.02 per share. Revenue increased 8.6% over the same quarter last year to $75.4 million, breezing past the $69.97 million consensus.

Quotient also is forecasting Q1 revenue in a range of $70 million to $73 million, narrowly trailing the $73.22 million analyst mean. It also sees FY177 revenue coming in between $307 million to $317 million, straddling the $309.41 million Street call.

QUOT shares were up more than 19% at $13.00 even in recent trade, easing from a session high of $13.30 a share Friday morning.

In other sector news,

(+) ATVI, (+16.4%) Projected Q1 EPS of $0.51 on $1.55 bln in revenue tops analyst estimates by $0.20 per share and about $250 mln in revenue. Also authorizes new, $1 bln stock buyback program and raises annual dividend by 15% over prior year to $0.30 per share.

(-) YELP, (-13.1%) At least three ratings shops reduce their Yelp price targets while two other raise their targets following weak Q1 revenue outlook but above-consensus Q4 EPS and in-line revenue during October-to-December period.
