Commodities End Mixed; Crude Finishes Higher; Metals Back Off, Gold Falls

Commodities finish trading mixed as crude oil futures added to early gains to finish above $89 a barrel. Gold finished the session lower, along with most metals.

Light, sweet crude for October delivery finished up 0.6% to $89.40 a barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was up 2.68% to $3.02 a gallon while natural gas was down 3.84% to $3.88 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) is up 0.93% to $34.66. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) is down 3.54% to $9.80.

Meanwhile, gold futures finished lower along with silver. Copper gained with equities.

Gold for December delivery finished down 2.5% to $1,781.40 an ounce. In other metal futures, silver was down 2.13% to $39.67 a troy ounce while copper traded up 1.77% to $3.96.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.83% to $76.24.

In metal ETFs, SPDR Gold Trust ( GLD ) is down 1.87% to $173.90. Market Vectors Gold Miners ( GDX ) is down 1.03% to $62.52. iShares Silver Trust ( SLV ) is down 2.35% to $38.67.
