Cisco to report amid quiet session

Today's calendar includes minor economic reports and some noteworthy corporate results.

European industrial production comes out early, which could affect sentiment in the morning. Weekly mortgage applications will also be announced at 7 a.m. ET.

The Census Bureau's producer-price index at 8:30 a.m. ET is expected to show an increase of 0.2 percent for both its main and core readings. The rose 0.5 percent overall the previous month and 0.6 percent excluding food and energy. Neither is likely to have a big impact on trading because inflation is not a major worry at present.

Crude-oil inventories at 10:30 a.m. ET round out the economic news.

Farm-equipment stock Deere and retailer Macy's report earnings before the opening bell, along with Sony, Plug Power, and SodaStream. Technology giant Cisco Systems, plus Agilent Technologies, Vishop, and ExOne follow in the afternoon.

Tomorrow is the busiest day of the week, with European gross domestic product numbers, jobless claims, consumer prices and regional surveys from the New York and Philadelphia Federal Reserve banks. Wal-Mart Stores and Kohls report before in the pre-market. Applied Materials, Autodesk, J.C. Penney, and Nordstrom announce after the close.
