Chemical and advanced materials maker, Celanese CorporationCE said that it will expand the high end of its engineered materials product portfolio with the initial introduction of two premium industrial grades of Polyether Ether Ketone (PEEK) in second-half 2016. These will include high flow PEEK and high flow reinforced PEEK.

Celanese will be able to provide greater value to molders, extruders and end users in key industries including automotive, electronics, electrical, industrial and medical with the addition of these ultra-high performance polymer. The end use applications for high-performing PEEK polymers will allow the auto makers to lightweight their vehicles, leading to higher fuel efficiency and lesser emissions.

The thin wall intricate components will allow Electronics & Electrical manufacturers to attain their miniaturization objectives for parts that must operate under extreme service conditions. The stock shapes for machined parts will add to parts with high temperature corrosion resistance in order to enable them to operate under severe service conditions such as deep sea oil and gas recovery. The complex geometries and precision miniature parts for diagnostic and analytical instrumentation are exposed to a range of liquids and gasses.

The expansion of the Celanese engineered materials portfolio will benefit customers in a number of ways. The advanced flow technology will enable the intricate parts with thin walls and tight tolerance to be molded, thus reducing cycle time and end part cost. The Tier suppliers and original equipment manufacturers will get access to parts with improved thermo-mechanical properties for use in high heat service conditions or in miniaturization applications.
