Canadian Market Outlook

GoCs have tried to find a foothold, helped by renewed safe haven buying of Bunds as the market weighs lingering conflict between Greece and its creditors. European earnings have been upbeat. U.S. stock index futures have consolidated the two-day rally.

The 10-year yield had dipped 1 bp to 1.71%, but only after having posted a fresh four-month high at 1.725%. And USD-CAD had stabilized around 1.2100. The March trade report at 8.30am ET is expected to reveal a narrow deficit. BoC Senior Deputy Governor Wilkins will speak in Montreal (remarks published 12.30pm ET). C$15 billion in T-bills will be sold at the regular T-bill auction (bidding deadline 10.30am ET).

In domestic news, the Liberals have won a third straight majority in the P.E.I. election. And the Alberta election will take place today, with polls having suggested a shift in power to the NDP for the first time in more than 40 years.
