Best and Worst Buys of November 2012
November is a great month for bargain hunters because the prices on many items fall to their lowest points of the year around Black Friday. Here's what you can expect to find marked down this month -- and what you should wait a little longer to buy, according to dealnews.com , which analyzes deals from past years to predict what will be discounted this year.
What's on sale this month ...
Apple products. The best place to score deals on iPods, iPads, iMacs and MacBooks isn't the Apple Store, which only takes 5% to 10% off these products during its Black Friday sale. You'll find more substantial discounts -- up to 20% -- at Apple resellers such as Amazon , MacMall and MacConnection .
Cookware. According to dealnews.com, November has more cookware deals than any other month. So if you need to stock up on bakeware, cutlery sets or small appliances for the holiday cooking season, now is the time to buy.
HDTVs. HDTV prices are expected to reach record-breaking lows, according to dealnews.com. On Black Friday, expect prices on off-brand 42-inch HDTVs to hit $189, 55-inch HDTVs to fall to $789 and 60-inch HDTVs to be $719. Prices on name-brand TVs already are within a few dollars of their lowest prices of the year, which were reached at the beginning of 2012. Price on these models should fall even more in December.
Laptops. Dealnews.com expects prices on budget laptops to hit $179 on Black Friday. This price is lower than the cheapest tablet (and dealnews.com doesn't expect to see tablet prices marked down much on Black Friday).
Wait a little longer to buy ...
Toys. You might already be hearing about the must-have toys for this season -- but you won't see the best prices until the 14 days leading up to Christmas. If you're afraid to wait that long for fear that your child's favorite toy or video game will be sold out, you still might be able to get it at a good discount on Black Friday.
Cold-weather apparel. The best deals will appear in January. But if you're desperate for a new coat, many apparel retailers offer online coupons around Black Friday.
