Asian Stocks Finish the Day Mixed, Nikkei Briefly Crosses 20,000 for First Time in 15 Years Before Closing Lower

Asian markets closed mixed on Friday, with the Nikkei surpassing the psychologically-important 20,000 threshold for the first time since April 2000 before falling back to end down 0.2% at 19,907.63.

The Shanghai Composite had a good day, closing above the 4,000 level for the first time since 2008 after data showed consumer prices grew at the same pace in March as in the prior month.

Meanwhile, the Hang Seng ended the day 1.3% higher, continuing a rally driven by fund flows from the mainland through the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect trading scheme.
